Taba Kiera
My artworks appear alive, permanently suspended between organic matter & constructed surface.
They exist in tension: between nature & artificiality, vitality & control, body & object, and echo the human condition in an artificial world.
Across paintings, ceramics, and wearable sculptures, all series are bound by a single inquiry:
what society seeks to control and what remains truly free.
For collectors drawn to ritualized encounters with materiality.
Technique:
Bio-Tempera & Bio-Acrylic Encapsulation
Material:
(Organic-Resin-Encased Sewn Kombucha/Mushroom/Weed Leather, and Tempera/Acrylics)
These works investigate the suspension of organic processes within artificial systems. I mix tempera or acrylics with organic matter that was once alive—bacterial cellulose, fungi, skin-like materials—and suspend it within a synthetic coating to explore the tension between life and its containment: preservation as a form of control, and beauty concealing violence. What appears organic is often immobilized, contained, subdued, and distanced from its origin, mirroring the contemporary body in a world shaped by artificial systems.
Through layered textures and biomorphic forms, these artworks reflect the tension between body's feral freedom and societal control, inviting collectors to witness the delicate, often imperceptible rhythms of life violently immobilised within an imposed form. They also enact my obsession with plant leather, the unknown or uncanny (think cosmos, ocean's abyss, deep time, or human soul), and mixing pigments.
